Brewing Confidence, Craft, and Community. One Competition at a Time.

What starts as a friendly contest often becomes a turning point for participants. It’s a chance to refine skills, discover hidden talents, and take pride in their craft. These competitions are more than events; they’re platforms for growth, connection, and creating opportunities across our client spaces.

At Avanti, we believe in more than just serving great coffee. We believe in serving people and creating meaningful opportunities for growth, development, and recognition. One of the most rewarding ways we live this out is through our barista competitions hosted in collaboration with our clients. What started as an internal initiative has grown into something bigger: a celebration of skill, passion, and potential.

More Than a Competition

These events are about more than just who can pour the best latte art or extract the perfect espresso. They’re about uplifting people. Empowering them. Showing appreciation for the craft and care that go into every cup served across our clients’ spaces, and creating a platform for individuals to feel seen, supported, and inspired.

We’ve run competitions across Southern Sun and Krispy Kreme, bringing together staff from various branches and regions to test their skills, cheer each other on, and build a stronger sense of pride in what they do. Whether it’s a hotel breakfast service or a busy coffee counter, the people behind the cup matter, and they deserve to be celebrated.

A Launchpad for Growth

For many of the participants, these competitions mark the first time they’ve been recognised for their coffee or service skills. They often discover new confidence, a deeper interest in coffee, or a spark of ambition to grow further in their role. But the impact doesn’t stop there…

These events have shown us how powerful these platforms can be, not just for individuals, but for teams, branches, and brands. The energy, morale, and connection that come from competing, learning, and sharing in a celebration of craft are invaluable. Clients have noted the upliftment in their staff. Colleagues walk away inspired, and we all learn something along the way.

We see firsthand how important it is to create safe, professional spaces where people feel encouraged to grow. Spaces where coffee is taken seriously, and where people are given the tools and the trust to pursue a passion.

Building Something Bigger

The more we host these competitions, the clearer it becomes: this is just the beginning.

There’s so much room to grow, whether that’s expanding into new formats or bringing competitions to more of our client spaces. We’re exploring how to create tailored events for different service styles and clients, and how to weave in more elements of training, collaboration, and fun. The goal? To continue making competitions a meaningful and enriching part of the Avanti experience.

These events are also a chance to identify areas for improvement, celebrate top performers, and enhance our own training methods. It’s not just the baristas who grow; we grow too, because when you listen closely to the people on the ground, you understand what really matters. You see where support is needed. You gain insights that only come from honest conversations and real effort, and you walk away more committed than ever to doing better for your clients, for their people, and the industry as a whole.

It’s About People

At the heart of every competition, there’s one simple belief: great coffee starts with great people, and when you invest in those people, when you take the time to nurture their talent, their confidence, and their potential, you create something lasting.

These aren’t just events. They’re moments that matter, and for us, they’re a proud reflection of what it means to serve with purpose, passion, and care.
